Balnarring Chiropractic

Popping Painkillers Two or Three Times a Week Just to Get Through the Day?

Most recurring headaches don't start in your head. They start in your neck. We assess the full picture, find the pattern, and help you get to the source of why they keep coming back.

You've Tried Painkillers, Rest, and Drinking More Water, But the Headaches Keep Coming Back

You know the drill. The tension starts building mid-morning. By the afternoon it's wrapped around the base of your skull. You take something, it dulls the edge for a few hours, and by tomorrow it's back again. Some weeks it barely lets up.

Here's what most people don't consider: the upper cervical spine (the top two vertebrae in your neck) has a direct neurological connection to the base of your skull. When those joints stiffen up, the surrounding muscles tighten, and pain refers straight into your head. That's why painkillers only help temporarily. They mute the signal without touching the source.

That's exactly what we assess at your first visit. Not just where it hurts, but where it's actually coming from.

Chiropractor — Balnarring Chiropractic

I started Balnarring Chiropractic because I believe everyone on the Peninsula deserves access to thorough, honest care — not a rushed appointment where you feel like a number.

Recurring headaches are one of the most common things I see, and one of the most commonly mismanaged. Most patients who come to us have been told it's stress, tension, or "just migraines" without anyone actually assessing how their upper neck is moving. Once we find the structural driver, the pattern usually starts to make a lot more sense.

If we can help, I'll tell you exactly how. If we can't, I'll point you in the right direction. No pressure, no lock-in — just honest care.

How We Assess and Care for Recurring Headaches

A clear, systematic approach designed to get you back on your feet — and keep you there.

Full Upper Cervical & Neurological Assessment:

We assess the top two vertebrae (C1/C2), suboccipital muscle tension, cervical spine mobility, posture, jaw contribution, and headache pattern to understand the full picture. Not just where it hurts, but what's referring pain into your head.

Clear Findings & Personalised Plan:

We explain exactly what we found in plain language. No jargon, no guesswork. You'll leave with a clear care plan, an understanding of what's driving your headaches, and realistic timeframes.

Targeted Hands-On Care:

Upper cervical adjustments, suboccipital soft tissue therapy, neck mobilisation, and specific exercises. All targeted to the findings from your assessment and adapted to your comfort level.

Prevention & Long-Term Self-Management:

Specific neck exercises, postural strategies, sleep position advice, and trigger management so you have the tools to reduce headache frequency between visits. The goal is fewer headaches, less medication, more control.

Common Questions

My GP says they're migraines. Can you still help?
It depends. True migraines have a different neurological mechanism and are best managed medically. Cervicogenic and tension-type headaches, which originate in the neck and upper spine, are a separate presentation that chiropractors assess and manage. We'll be upfront after your assessment about whether we believe we can help.
I've had headaches for years. Is it too late?
Not at all. Long-standing headaches often mean the upper cervical joints have been restricted for a while, but that doesn't mean they can't improve. We assess the current state of movement and build a realistic plan from there.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly, no referral required. If you have imaging or reports from your GP, feel free to bring them along, but it's not necessary to get started.
Will it be painful? I'm nervous about neck adjustments.
We adapt our techniques to suit your comfort level. For the upper neck we often start with very gentle mobilisation and soft tissue work before any adjustments. We always discuss this with you first and never do anything without your consent.
Can I claim on my health fund?
Yes. All major health funds are accepted and you can process your rebate on the spot with our HICAPS terminal before you leave.
